SOCMA Educational Outreach Award

The SOCMA Educational Outreach Award, created through a partnership between CEF and the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA), is awarded to the SOCMA member facility that demonstrates the greatest educational impact as a result of its outreach initiatives. Through this award, CEF and SOCMA hope to expand the community outreach efforts of SOCMA's members.

Investing in the local community by educating consumers, specifically students, on the benefits of chemistry and chemicals is vital to the future of the industry. Those who are doing so should be recognized accordingly."

To further develop the industry-education relationship, CEF also awards $2,500 to the school or educational charity of the award recipient's choice. These funds are donated in the award winner's honor and are designated for the enhancement of science education.

The 2009 SOCMA Educational Outreach Award was presented to KMCO, LP of Crosby, TX during SOCMA's Annual Dinner held on December 7, 2009 in New York, NY. KMCO also won the award in 2008 and is being awarded again for their continued efforts to promote science awareness within local schools. Activities included: company employees serving on the Education Committee for the local chamber of commerce, sponsoring a local college day and a luncheon for new area educators, and involvement in the Texas Scholars Program and the Special Olympics.
