Our Commitment CEF is committed to enhancing science education by providing opportunities for collaborative initiatives between chemical industry members and the communities in which they operate. Through our successful You Be The Chemist programs, we hope to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and chemical industry leaders with the ultimate goal of effecting long-term change in the general public’s understanding of, participation in, and general acceptance towards chemistry and the chemical industry. A 2009 overview highlighting CEF's programmatic, communication, and contributor efforts on behalf of science education.
An at-a-glance look at CEF.
CEF has a small staff with offices located in Arlington, VA. The Board Of Trustees serves as the main governing body of CEF and functions as manager of all Foundation affairs, such as program directives, funds and investments, and new business development. The Board is comprised of chemical distributors, chemical manufacturers, and members of chemistry related allied organizations. You Be the Chemist Program Overviews The You Be The Chemist Activity Guides, Challenge, and Lesson Plan Competition are educational tools created by CEF to engage students in the science of chemistry and make teaching the subject easier for educators. These programs also encourage face-to-face interaction between a chemical industry company and the community in which they operate. CEF program implementation and success relies heavily on the time and effort of volunteers across the country. CEF's volunteers include chemical industry members, middle-school educators, college professors and students, chemists, parents, and community leaders. CEF programs offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. Members of the chemical distribution and manufacturing industries, allied organizations, and individuals completely fund CEF programs. CEF holds several annual events each year that highlight the important work of industry members and students. CEF invites press to attend the Vanguard Award Ceremony and the National You Be The Chemist Challenge.
