Thank you to all of the educators who participated in our Activity Guides survey! Your feedback and input is helping us to continually improve the quality of our hands-on K-8 science resources. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, we have selected two survey participants at random to win a $150 cash prize!
On May 2nd, CEF staff members teamed up with The Dow Chemical Company to exhibit at the 2015 Philadelphia Science Festival’s Carnival. On a bright, sunny day in Philly, we challenged students of all ages to explore properties of water and surfactants through an experiment called “floating paper clips!” We had a great day – and we think the attendees who stopped by our booth did, too.

Dawn Chartier and her second grade class at Bullock Creek Elementary School in Midland, MI have been selected as the winner of the 2015 Earth Day Challenge for their video submission: “Chemistry Is Not A Mystery!” Check out their winning video!
Students in West Virginia and Puerto Rico participated in local You Be The Chemist Challenge® competitions for the very first time on Friday! Congratulations to all of the volunteers, educators, parents, and students involved in these competitions. With the addition of six new states this year, the Challenge program now reaches nearly 38,000 students in 36 U.S. states and territories!
April 12-18 is National Volunteer Week, and we’re taking a little extra time to appreciate the fabulous people who have dedicated their time and efforts to our programs. They may stay behind the scenes, but their hard work is one of the driving forces behind the success and growth of our programs nationwide. CEF volunteers, you light up our world! We’re currently seeking applicants who have a background in science education to serve as Certified Instructors for our Essential Elements K-8 professional development workshops!
