The Hubble Space Telescope, which NASA calls theĀ “most significant advance in astronomy since Galileo’s telescope” was launched on April 24, 1990 – 25 years ago!

Initially hampered by an out-of-position lens, once the telescope was repaired by a crew from space shuttle Endeavor, it began transmitting breathtaking views of the Earth, other planets, stars, galaxies, and even parts of the universe that scientists hadn’t even discovered! Data from the telescope has been cited in over 12,700 papers – not bad for a 25-year-old!
